the shift is memorable

According to the Mayan calendar, today (Nov 8, 2003) marks the beginning of a 360 day period of turmoil in our world. I saw a video tape of a lecture my wife attended, a 5 1/2 hour presentation about the periods and their meanings contained within the Mayan calendar and the math behind it, pretty interested presentation if nothing else. Now, whether you believe in this stuff or not, it is still incredible to hear the stories of the Mayan and how in tune they appear to be with our universe, something that seems to be lost in our hectic pace of life today. It just so happens that today is also a lunar eclipse, I am hopeful that we get a clear night to observe the eclipse, should right around dinner time where I live.

I was thinking about these events coinciding as I was doing a bit of kitchen repair this afternoon (I am not the world's best plumber, but how hard can it be, right?).. While under the sink, I heard a banging on my basement door, not a knock but a banging like someone wanted to get in... turns out it was my brother (who also happens to be my next door neighbour, more blog material for sure - hahaha, but I digress). He thought perhaps our neighbour one lot over and behind me, was having a domestic dispute with her husband because he heard yelling. As we listened, it turned from yelling to wailing and I had a rush feeling of morbid curiosity come over me, like passing by a fresh accident scene, instictively, I knew something was *not* good. I heard others there but didn't really know what to do, nor really what was wrong, I could only see bits of emergency services personel coming and going thru the thick douglas fir trees dividing our two yards. Sadly, it appears that the man did not live..... I heard the cries of distraught and shocked family members losing a loved one and I reminded of images on television of news clips that are an everyday occurance in our world, "this happens somewhere every single day"

Today, I am reminded to be thankful for the many things I have in my life.
